Memoir writers: the deeper you probe, the more universal your story.

Write the memoir you’re meant to write.

If you’re working on your memoir, you know reader takeaway means eveything. We want our readers to resonate with our story, to think, “Yes, me too. I’m learning something about myself, here!” even though their life experiences are completely different than ours.

Discovering the story for ourselves, so we can tell it, is a sacred act, one, as you surely know, requires much self-reflection. Day after day, we’re called to dig deeper inside ourselves and connect with the part of us who, after rising above our challenges understands, not only that she’s grown—but also how and why—so we can share it in our story. Sharing, not just what happened to us, but what we’ve learned from our experiences, our life-lessons, is the pearl. With memoir, it’s how we make the personal, universal. We’re all so much more alike than different in that our life lessons overlap. This is the universal healing nature of storytelling, what I call memoir-as-medicine.

We can get so close to our own stories.

Yet doing this soul-searching isn’t easy. Sometimes, we can feel too close to our story to know if we’ve missed an important thread or should explore a particular scene on a deeper level or, perhaps, from a different angle or vantage-point. We may doubt we’ll remember all the experiences pertinent to the story we want to tell, let alone access our feelings about them. Then we need the clarity to write about it in the best way. That’s a lot to take on by ourselves. If I’m describing what you’ve been experiencing, having someone you trust along for the ride asking you the right questions and really listening to your answers can be extremely helpful. If you’re feeling stuck or experiencing a hiatus, whether before you’ve begun writing or after or just don’t want to tackle all the introspection alone, I can guide you through this integral, life-affirming part of your memoir journey.

My gift is listening for your story.

A Certified ghostwriter who understands narrative arc and self-reflection in memoir, and story-healer, at heart, (I’ll say more about this in a minute), I can help you gather all the information you need to write your book using the same process I use with my memoir ghostwriting clients. Employing an interviewing approach where I “let the story lead,” I’ll help you take a step back and connect the dots in ways you may not have seen before to get a bigger, more universal story. (link to FZ). Basically, I function as an objective observer or witness, if you will, and listen for your story. This listening or “following the story’s breadcrumbs” is an act of trust on both our parts, really—trust that your story will lead you exactly where it needs to go, and with me by your side, you’ll go there. If you’ve ever practiced yoga, you’ll know what I mean. Just as your body knows how to move in a posture flow, so too, your story knows what it is and how to tell it. My job is listening, yours is speaking your truth. Think of me as your story doula, on call, helping you give birth to the story bursting to come alive in you. Writing our memoir is giving birth to our soul, really, or a continuation, thereof.

We’ll meet as many times, as necessary, for you gather the material needed to write an intimate, captivating memoir that stands apart from others in its memoir category. One, because of your writing, gets the attention it deserves in the marketplace.

I think I’m a story-healer because, in addition to being an award-winning memoirist, writing the self-help book, YOUR HEART KNOWS THE ANSWER: How to Trust Yourself and Make the Choices That Are Right for You, which teaches women how to trust the voice of our heart or inner wisdom, and live according its messages, has helped me gain these self-reflection skills. I’ve been doing my own inner work for a long time and understand what healing is about.

Perhaps, this kind of deep probing is just the heart-opening experience you’re looking for.
