During an interview with the Washington Post Live, this morning, Sandra Douglas Morgan, President of the Las Vegas Raiders said that the best leadership advice she’s received is to listen to others.
Imagine.
If we listened to each other, truly listened. We would feel heard and be heard. Then we could disagree with one another. Viva la difference; we’d just agree to disagree.
Not one more war would happen.
The poise, the confidence this woman exudes! Yet she’s claimed this power. No one else can claim our power for us. No one else can make us strong. We can be inspired, supported, and loved by others. But we choose our own destiny. Each night, the head we lay down on our pillow is our own. Will we sleep peacefully? Will we truly rest?
The time for women is NOW. Through our stories, let’s inspire one another to be stronger, wiser, and more loving. Don’t get me wrong. I’m married to a man who worships the ground I walk on (and I, him); it’s not that women own the rights to courage and wisdom. These are universal, human qualities. Yet by our very nature, women seem to access them more easily.
The patriarchy twists this truth for its own benefit by creating the false narrative that women are “too emotional.” Then women start believing it, too.
Nonsense! Let’s not buy into this baseness, but that women can innately access their own inner wisdom, part of a greater, universal wisdom or simply what is. Men have different gifts. Let’s bask in the harmony together. It’s a pity that men are encouraged to don tough bravados. It only distances them from their own inner knowing—harming themselves, women, and our blessed children.
Well, here’s to women’s bravura!
Women’s courage is spectacular. Let’s own it by sharing our stories—for the world, and other women, in particular—to hear and embrace. If you had the floor and knew you’d really be heard, what gem would you offer up? What nuggets of truth would you share about yourself to inspire other women?
